Security Upgrade

Members of the Fleetwood community attended briefing meeting on the new security upgrades planned at Fleetwood today in which those in attendance were given details on the planned security upgrades. These upgrades are scheduled to begin at the beginning of April 2020.

For those who did not attend the briefing, the following points were covered:

  • Visitor Intercom would be replaced as the voice quality on the current system was poor despite having been repaired a number of times;
  • The Mircel system from Combe Communications would be replaced by a new access control system. This system would provide additional functionality, which included:
    • Remote Access via Cell Phones for pedestrians, staff and pre-approved contractors.
    • Pin codes for access and exits
    • Remote Controls for residents
    • Better control and reporting capability
  • Upgrade of the existing camera around the guardhouse
  • Installation of AI enabled perimeter cameras with off-site monitoring
  • Refurbishment of the boom and possible repositioning; and
  • New exit procedures to improve security
  • Offsite Monitoring

These upgrades will require access to some units on the boundary, which will be coordinated by Pieter Steenekamp and Brigitte Vorster who have been tasked with project management for Fleetwood.

Contractors for the project are:

  • ELF – Connie van Tonder and Ryan Scott
  • Electrical contractors – Live Wire Electrical
  • City Wide Security for AI and Offsite Monitoring

This project will be a large investment for Fleetwood Estate Homeowners Association, but will be accommodated within our existing Capex budget. Monthly operations costs may be slightly higher than is currently the case, but much of the existing costs will fall away or be replaced in the new system.
