We are all faced with decisions in our daily lives and where to live is one of the bigger ones. Hopefully everybody living at Fleetwood Estate, are satisfied with their decision when comparing the various options from security estates, standalone houses to apartments etc. There are obvious pros and cons associated with each.
For me, I get frustrated on a Sunday when I cannot get into my garage to do woodwork, because the rules say I cannot make a noise. I am however happy that I don’t wake up to weed eaters at 7am or tile cutting at 4pm because of those very same rules.
I am happy that children can play in the street just as most of us did as children ourselves. This is possible because vehicle speed is limited to 20km and stopping at intersections is mandatory. It does sometimes feel unnecessary, but I comply because this is what the community have decided.
After all if the membership felt differently, they can change the rules!
I own my house and therefore should be able to renovate and extend as I please. It is therefore an irritation, that I have to show the Board that my neighbours don’t object, that my plans meet estate standards, and plans are approved by the building inspector.
But, like most of the owners at Fleetwood, my house represents my largest investment. The very last thing that I want is for somebody else to go crazy and build something totally out of character or negatively affects the value or my enjoyment of my property.
The value of my property is also closely linked to the welfare of the Homeowners Association. We all have stories or our own experience of Complexes which have been poorly managed – financially, maintenance, conduct rules wise etc, which have ultimately lead to property prices dropping and difficulty in getting them sold.
I am grateful therefore that we have good people at Fleetwood who give up their time and energy to look after my safety, my investment and provide a pleasing environment in which to live. I am also pleased to see that for the most part, everybody follows the rules, even when they don’t agree. At least I know that we can leave our garages open, not lock our doors at night, kids can play in the streets, the gardens and trees are maintained, things will be fixed and my biggest investment is as safe as it can be. My family are safe and I am proud of where I live.
Can you imagine having to do all this yourself?
